How we track deals.

The rules behind every row in the directory: what counts, where the facts come from and how errors are corrected.

What counts as a deal?

An acquisition of control, a merger, a joint venture or a majority stake where the buyer is headquartered in a different country from the target, and the target is in the EU, the EEA, Switzerland or the UK. Domestic deals, minority stakes, property purchases, SPAC listings and purchases of rights or content only are left out.

Where do the facts come from?

Every deal has a primary source: the buyer's or target's own announcement, a stock exchange or SEC filing, or a competition authority notice. Press reports are added as further sources. Each deal page links them all.

How often is it updated?

Every working day. New deals are checked by a person before they go live, and open deals are re-checked every Monday for completion or termination. The date a deal was last checked is on its page.

What is the people side?

The short box on each deal and country page: the consultation, information and employee transfer rules a buyer meets in the target's country, each with its public source. It describes the rules in general, not the deal.

What is never on the page?

People's names, anything that is not public, opinions or forecasts about a named deal, and whether Octagon has been in contact with a company. Deals involving Octagon's clients or competitors are not listed.

How do I report an error or ask for a removal?

Write to info@octagon.nl. Corrections are made within one working day. A company that asks to be taken off the directory is removed within five working days.

Can I reuse the data?

Yes. The public facts are free to reuse under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, with credit to "Octagon Professionals International, Deals into Europe".
